Serving as a cultural incubator for creatives of color, the BrownSugarCollective is just what our generation needs. An amalgamation of game changers and thought leaders, this group founded by high school friends Wendy Ngala, M’heri Jackson and Athena Partington serves as a basis for unity and purposeful relationships. Creating collaborative spaces that hone in on the importance of community, it brings about the notion that when we build together we come out on top, not just one of us but, all of us.

Birthed out a need to see a togetherness that was lacking in the creative community, the trio began launching events that would positively transform how creatives interact with one another. Prized on partnership, the BrownSugarCollective embody just what they hope to see – a banding together of creatives that hold the power to instill change.

Since their first ever launch event the BrownSugarCollective has done an incredible job in bringing together communities of colorful creatives. Providing resources that reinforce all that we are and all that we’ll be. From panelist led discussions to collaborative projects, this trio is undoubtedly shaking up the creative scene for the better.

Most recently, this past weekend the trio put on their first ever Sugar Kitchen event, a baking class led by pastry chef Nakai and hosted by model, youtuber and public speaker Whitney Madueke. What a time it was to be surrounded by good company, great music, and tasty sweets. Placed in teams of four each of us put on our baker’s hats, preceded to being bakers for the day and in the midst of all the kitchen festivities made friends, laughed and picked up on some life gems. Moments like this bedded a reassurance that creative communities such as the BrownSugarCollective are a necessity. Serving as a vital outlet for millennials of color to express and be their selves both wholeheartedly and unapologetically we're excited to see how this audacious trio will continue to ignite and transform the future of creatives.
