After more than a decade with the ABC network Shonda Rhimes, creator of the hit shows Scandal and Grey’s Anatomy has signed a multi year deal with Netflix ending her partnership with one of the biggest names to date at the network.

Announced last week Netflix will be brining what many of us know as Shondaland to their platform. With being a subscription service Rhimes will have more creative freedom than what Broadcast TV allowed. She mentions in a statment that:

“Shondaland’s move to Netflix is the result of a shared plan Ted Sarandos and I built based on my vision for myself as a storyteller and for the evolution of my company. Ted provides a clear, fearless space for creators at Netflix. He understood what I was looking for — the opportunity to build a vibrant new storytelling home for writers with the unique creative freedom and instantaneous global reach provided by Netflix’s singular sense of innovation. The future of Shondaland at Netflix has limitless possibilities.”

This move is not only big for Rhimes but Netflix as well as it was announced that Disney is in the process of starting their own streaming service. With this new endeavor on Disney’s part there would be a pull back of Disney and Pixar films from Netflix so, Netflix is smart to rack up on films and televisions most talented and creative individuals. It seems that Netflix is putting their money in all the right places, spending billions of dollars on new content and people to ensure their subscriber count doesn’t start to dwindle.

It's obvious Netflix is aiming to be number one in the subscription service game and with Rhimes now apart of the team we see it being very plausible. We're excited to see how she'll grow with this new move and are even more excited to see what creative content she has in store for her audience with the freedom subscription services offer.
