A year in the making Nike globally has become the talk of the town since announcing it had its first ever performance Hijab in the works and after months of anticipation Nike’s Pro Hijab is finally here. Specifically tailored for female Muslim athletes, the Pro Hijab is available for purchase via Nike’s website

Breaking the barriers with Olympic fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad, figure skater Zahra Lari, and professional weightlifter Amna Al Haddad the durable, breathable and lightweight performance Hijab is groundbreaking, to say the least for female Muslim athletes all over the world. Serving as a pioneer for inclusion, Nike is sparking a much-needed conversation globally that extends far beyond sports. It’s revolutionizing design has opened up a dialogue on the necessity of representation in athletic apparel.

Opening up about the struggles she faced for so long without an actual athletic performance Hijab, Ibtihaj Muhammad recalls how, the wet, heavy and stiff material “would completely obstruct [her] hearing”. Often times she’d “get a warning and then a point against [her]” and would have to tell “the referee, ‘Oh, I’m sorry, I couldn’t hear you.’”.

Available in three different colorways – black, vast grey and obsidian and in two sizes – XS/S and M/L we are happy to see this shift being made within the culture of sports apparel. Though long overdue we’re glad Nike is paving the way for other companies to be more inclusive with their products. This is only the beginning of a domino effect that will positively move our culture.
