Lupita Nyong'o Vocalizes Her Disappointment in Grazia Altering her Hair

BY ASIA RIDDICK

Grazia, UK magazine received backlash when their cover star Lupita Nyong’o bought to light her disappointment with the publication, stating they “edited out & smoothed my hair to fit a more Eurocentric notion of what beautiful hair looks like”. Followed by the hashtag - don’t touch my hair “#dtmh” the actress continued on her Instagram to say “there is still a very long way to go to combat the unconscious prejudice against black women’s complexion, hair style and texture”. Had she been consulted on what transpired she explained she would not have supported the “omission of what is [her] native heritage”.

Since bringing this to light the magazine has since then expressed their deepest apologies in a statement on twitter where they declared their commitment to “representing diversity throughout its pages”. They went on to clarify “that at no point did they make any editorial request to the photographer for Lupita Nyong’o’s hair to be altered on this week’s cover, nor di [they] alter it [themselves]”.
