School's Out for Summer

BY ASIA RIDDICK

The school madness is finally over. Go ahead, breath a sigh of relief and pat yourself on the back for making it through yet another semester. With summer right around the corner plans are definitely underway and en route but, before you start mapping that out be sure to incorporate these ten sure-fire ways to ensure you aren’t lacking in productivity over the break.

Here are 10 ways TO havE a productive and purposeful summer

MAKE A LIST There is power in writing things down, get in the habit of doing so with your goals and watch them flourish. This summer is the perfect time to start. Whatever you're looking to accomplish, write it down, believe in it and check it off.

GET ORGANIZED It's time for a life makeover. If you’re a little disorganized from the end of the semester craziness now is the time to get back on track and in order with your organization. It’ll leave you refreshed and ready to enter the semester once the summer break is over. Start in your home, an organized space encourages an organized life.

GRAB A BOOK Though it may be very tempting, don’t allow your mind to go dry while away from classes. Get up on some good reads, at least two to hold you over for the summer. It’ll keep your brain engaged and alert while away from the usual textbooks and lectures for the next two months.

VISIT MUSEUMS Art is always fun! Museums are not only the best way to meet cool people but, it's a great way to educate yourself on all that concerns the Art World. Plus, with tons of free and pay as you wish options here in NYC there's no reason not to make a trip to a few museums this summer.

TRY SOMETHING NEW Embracing uncomfortable in things outside our normal routine can actually be less intimidating than we think. Step out of your comfort zone and experience something new, something you've never done before. The "it's not the right time" song and dance you've been singing for months ends now.

MAKE SOME EXTRA CASH If you don’t work during the school year take advantage of the summer break and get a job or two to earn some extra cash. It's a nice incentive to staying busy. Oh, and don't forget to save some of your summer earnings! Start developing good financial habits now.

APPLY TO INTERNSHIPS Build your resume with internships. Internships are the best way to not only grow your networks but to also get hands on experience in the career field you’re thinking about entering after graduating, it makes it easier to figure out what you’re truly passionate about. Internship.com and indeed.com are great sites to begin your search for the perfect internship.

GIVE BACK There are so many ways you can get involved and give back this summer. With time off from school it’s the perfect time to volunteer for a cause you’re passionate about. Make a positive impact in someones life, you'll feel good knowing your actions helped someone in need. Your community is a great place to start.

GET FIT Utilize this summer wisely and get in shape. Incorporate healthier foods into your diet, find work out routines that work for you and feel good while doing it. Health is wealth so invest in yourself and treat your body with care. Being the best version of yourself starts from within so this summer is the start of being more intentional with health and wellness.

WORK ON YOU With all of the productive things you now have lined up for this summer don't forget about yourself. It's easy to get engulfed in the busyness life brings so make sure to take time out for you. Get to know you better, work on the things you've been wanting to improve on and most importantly make sure you’re loving and appreciating all of who you are shamelessly!
